Monarchy New Zealand welcomes the announcement that Kuini o Aotearoa / The Queen of New Zealand has appointed Dame Cindy Kiro, DNZM, as the next Governor-General of New Zealand.
Dame Cindy Kiro will replace Her Excellency Dame Patsy Reddy as the 22nd Governor-General of New Zealand. Dame Cindy will be sworn in at the end of October this year.
The Queen, the Governor-General, and the Prime Minister each have a different role to play in our constitutional structure and each is extremely important in maintaining the balance of our democracy. We are confident that Dame Cindy Kiro will carry out the critical role of Governor-General very well.
